Nolan is 17 years old and lives in Kannapolis, NC with his father, mother, two sisters, and grandmother. He went to Long Preschool, Irvin Elementary, Harris Rd Middle School, and Robinson High School. It takes the whole family to care for Nolan, but everyone loves him!
Nolan has nicknames for all of his family members: His dad, Mark, is "Lifter", his mother, Leslie, is "All Around Carer", his sister, Madeline, is "Warden", his sister, Camille, is "Entertainer", and his grandmother, Bernice, is "Babier". His "adopted" grandfather, Bryant Jones, rides with Nolan on anything he can get home on and has "garage time" with him.
Nolan has several defining moments in his life. He had tendon lengthening surgery, which was a traumatic event involving being in a full leg casts for a month and then several months of recovery. His relationship with Pastor Dave at Midway Methodist Church and joining of Crossroads Church in Concord, NC were also defining moments in his life. He loves praise and worship and attending Youth on Tuesday nights.
His personality is funny, always smiling, and a jokester but sweet. He loves adventure and is up for anything. He loves to water ski at the Davidson YMCA with Adaptive Sports and Adventure Program. He loves to be in the air and fly in anything. Jets, small planes, helicopters, hot air balloons, you name it, he has done it all. Also, he loves to ride on a side by side, four wheelers, and of course horses. Doing anything at Wings of Eagles Ranch is something he always look forward to! His all time favorite thing is driving the boat and swimming! Nolan likes to eat all foods, but he is not a big sweets eater. He would rather have a salad than sweets, but spaghetti is his all time favorite, followed by steak. He loves watching Netflix and is a computer whiz. He enjoys being around people, but his favorite pastime is "garage time: with the guys.
Nolan was diagnosed in utero with partial agenesis of the corpus callosum. His brain signals do not travel normally to produce regular functions, like walking, talking, or any normal movements. He has to be in a wheelchair, which makes it challenging to get places and talk to people. His goals are walking in a walker independently, increasing his verbal skills, getting an independent job after graduation, and living a happy, productive, Christian life.
Nolan has been coming to Wings of Eagles Ranch for around 10 years for year round horse riding and summer camps. This has benefited him tremendously being around caring people who are having fun. Since coming to The Ranch, his core muscle has improved and stretching and over all coordination and strength. He loves learning about horses and different fun activities such as Flying Squirrel, zip line, fishing, and more.
